Dr. Zhen Sheng Zheng, Professor of Cardiology, Chairman of Assisted Circulation Laboratory, SunYat-Sen University of Medical Sciences. Began active research in external counterpulsation in the early 1970's. Developed a more sophisticated counterpulsation system when his team of Chinese researchers discovered that sequential cuff inflation produced superior diastolic augmentation to earlier, nonsequential treatment systems. Came to the United States to work with Dr. John Hui at Stony Brook University Hospital from 1988-1994 where "Enhanced External Counterpulsation" became reality.
